CHITTENANGO, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a shocking upset, the Oneida Indians beat Cazenovia 12-10 Saturday in the Section III Class B semifinals. QB Tyler Mallinder led the Indians on two scoring drives with less than six minutes to go, finishing with a six yard TD pass to Brandon Worley with 21 seconds left.
Oneida trailed just 3-0 at halftime, then by 10 after a Lakers score with 5:47 to play. But Mallinder led his team on an eleven play, 75 yard drive in just 2:14, ending with a TD pass to Kyle Peck, who made a perfect grab at the back of the end zone, getting his feet just inbounds.
The Indians had trouble in recent history trying to beat their Class B East rivals, including a regular season loss as well as one in last year's section final.
Oneida advances to this year's final to meet Chittenango Saturday afternoon at five from the Carrier Dome.
