BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Oneonta baseball team won their first ever Class B state title, winning two games Saturday, including a 2-0 win over Briarcliff in the title game. The Yellow Jackets beat Wayland Cohocton 8-4 in the semis to get to the champioship. Ben Moxley pitched a four hit shutout in the title game, getting some great defense from his Yellow Jackets teammates.
In Class D, Oriskany fell just short of the title, as Mike Smithmyer pitched a one hit shutout in a 2-0 win in the final. The Redskins beat Pine Valley 1-0 in the semis to get to the finals. Austin Smith had the lone hit on Smithmyer, who also struck out thirteen Redskins.
In Class A, New Hartford's magical postseason run ended in the state final four, as they were defeated 4-2 by Grand Island. The Spartans showed their team unity by showing off their bleach blonde hair in the pre-game ceremonies. Even head coach John Randall joined in!
