SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Oriskany girls basketball team kept their perfect season alive Wednesday night, holding off rival NY Mills 40-37 in the Section III Class D Final at the Carrier Dome. It was the fourth time the Redskins beat their conference rivals this season, but also the closest finish of the four.
Christina Graziadei set the pace, scoring 31 points and grabbing 17 rebounds for the Lady Redskins, who won their second straight section title. Oriskany edged Hamilton last season, thanks to a last second shot by Shannon VanShufflin.
In this year's matchup, the Lady Redskins threatened to pull away several times, but the Lady Marauders answered the call everytime, even taking the lead in the third quarter. Carly Dziekan led Mills with 14 points.
In addition to winning the MVP, Graziadei became the school's all-time leading scorer.
Oriskany now advances to regionals, where they will go to Oneonta State, Saturday, March 9th.
Girls section finals continue Thursday, with Notre Dame facing South Jefferson in the B final at 5, followed by Cooperstown vs. Weedsport in the C final at 6:45.
The Whitesboro-JD game scheduled for Wednesday night was postponed to Saturday night at 7, due to Whitesboro cancelling school due to weather.
