SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a stunning finish, Shannon VanShufflin hit the game winning shot with 8.7 seconds left in the Section III Class D final, as Oriskany beat Hamilton 35-33 Thursday night at the Carrier Dome. The win gives the Redskins their first section title since 2000.
Neither team led by more than eight points, which was Oriskany about halfway through the fourth quarter. But the two time defending champs from Hamilton came back to tie it late in the game. Katie Weeks of the Emerald Knights scored a game high 12 points.
VanShufflin's game winner was her only basket of the game, while Christina Graziadei led the Redskins with ten points and Meghan Carlo added 9 points.
Oriskany advances to regionals to face the Section IV winner, Saturday, March 10th at a Section III site.
