NEW YORK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - Okay, so technically it was Jake Kehrli's third game back for the NY Mills boys basketball team, but his prescene in the first half of the Marauders' 73-48 win Saturday night over Poland made it seem like a big return. Plus the Marauders' fans packed Beekman Gym for a rare Saturday night game, so it made for an electric atmosphere.
With Kehrli back, albeit in limited minutes as he's still getting over a leg injury, Mills looked like as complete a team as they did last March, when they won the Class D state championship. With Fred Russ and Jeff Albright graduating, it was Kehrli that was originally expected to step up and build on his two great performances at last year's state semis and championship in Glens Falls.
Instead, it's been Cody Mariotti assisting Matt Welch in the middle and the two combined to score 12 and 11 points respectively against the Tornadoes. Welch also added six rebounds and three blocks. Matt Vennaro chipped in eight points and seven rebounds, while Nick Comenale added ten points.
The Marauders (11-2, 8-0 CSC DIV) will head to Owen D. Young Tuesday, before heading to Oriskany for their third matchup of the season with the Redskins.
