HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Poland boys soccer team beat Mount Markham in overtime Tuesday, as Mark Shelhamer hit the game winning golden goal at HCCC's Wehrum Stadium. The Tornadoes came back from a goal down late in the game to win and keep their undefeated season alive, on head coach Greg Haver's birthday.
Tyler Plows gave the Mustangs a 1-0 lead about ten minutes into the second half, a lead which held until about twelve minutes left. That's when Poland's Harrison Rosenburgh scored the equalizer after an assist from Derek Bush.
The game then went into a ten minute sudden death overtime, and after Rosenburgh missed a shot attempt about seven minutes in, Shelhamer slid with a shot past Mountr Markham keeper Alex Wrobel.
Wrobel had seven saves in net, while Poland's Tate Coe had six.
With the win, Poland improved to 14-0-1 on the year, while Mount Markham fell to 12-2-1.
The Tornadoes will finish their regular season Thursday at Remsen.
