UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - After a breakthrough regular season, the No. 2-seeded Proctor boys soccer team opened its postseason in fine fashion on Thursday with a 3-0 win over No. 7 Liverpool in the Section III, Class AA quarterfinals.

In a fast-paced and hard-fought game that saw both sides make lots of runs at the nets, Proctor led 1-0 at the half on an Armin Budnjo goal and padded its lead in the second half on goals by Adis Dervisevic and Yo Yoh.

The Raiders, ranked No. 18 in the state in Class AA, improve to 13-2-1 overall and will face the winner of No. 3 seed Fayetteville-Manlius/No. 6 Corcoran in the semifinals at a neutral site, date and time to be determined.

Goalkeeper Tarik Mekic made 10 saves for Proctor, but Andy Mendez made the biggest save of all, clearing away a wide-open Liverpool chance in the second half when Mekic was caught out of position with Proctor leading 1-0.
