WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - Revenge was sweet for the Westmoreland girls soccer team, who beat Remsen 2-1 Friday in overtime. The win for the Lady Bulldogs avenged their only loss of the season and also dealt the Lady Rams their first loss of the season.
The game was purely defensive in the first half, as both teams battled each other and the elements as the winds swirled and the sun got in everyone's eyes.
But the players got used to it and by the second half, both teams found their offensive stride. Remsen scored first, of a direct kick by Ashley O'Connor, which slipped through the keeper's hands.
It looked as if that would be the game's only goal, but with less than ten minutes left, Gaby Murphy scored a goal that wasn't immediately signaled, but did count to tie up the game.
Neither team scored in the first ten minute session of overtime, however in the second, Westmo's Kendra McGregor broke through with the game winner in a goal no one at this game will soon forget.
Both teams are now 10-1.
