ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - RFA and Proctor wrote another chapter in their stories sports rivalry Monday, as the Black Knight baseball team beat the Raiders 2-1 in extra innings at Delutis Field. Neither team scored in the first six innings, but each scored one to send the game to extra innings. RFA won it in the bottom of the ninth, on a bases loaded walk to Joe Izzo issued by Jordon Treen.
Treen took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but with one out, Garrett Reilly lined a shot that hit Treen's stomach and the pitcher was unable to recover to make the out. Both Treen and his opposite number, RFA's Steve Eychner, pitched complete games.
Proctor scored the game's first run in the top of the seventh, when A.J. Partipelo hit a blooper to right that dropped just out of the reach of Robbie Waller. But RFA tied it in the bottom of the inning, on a sacrifice fly by Spencer Kahler, which scored Dylan Thomas, to send the game to extra innings.
In the bottom of the eighth, it looked as if RFA won the game on a single by Josh Mazzaferro. However, since there were two outs, right fielder Lawrence Elliot was able to get the throw into first to beat Mazzaferro. So instead of winning there, it took the Black Knights one more inning.
RFA improved to 7-7 with the win, while Proctor fell to 6-8.
