H.S. Football:RFA falls to 1-1 in home opener
ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was a cold September night as the RFA Black Knights took to the field against the Corcoran Cougars, with their offense also going cold, Friday.
After a thrilling last-minute victory over local rival Whitesboro, last week, the Knights looked to improve to 2-0 in their first game at the Old Stadium this year.
RFA couldn't seem to get in any offensive rhythm though, as some costly mistakes caused the Black Knights to fall to Corcoran, 9-6.
An early touchdown pass from Cougar QB Roy Bell to WR Jamal Harris put the Black and Orange down by 6 in the first. Shortly thereafter, a high snap on a punt attempt in RFA's own territory led to a safety and two extra points for the visitors, putting Rome in a hole quickly.
While RFA did manage to put together a couple of long drives, one lasting more than half of the 2nd Quarter, it was not enough to hold off the Cougars. The Black Knights would only manage to score 6 points in the 2nd half en route to the loss.
Coach Ted Swavely and company look to put this loss in the back-burner and pull back above .500, as they get set to host the struggling Proctor Raiders, next week.
