Sauquoit edges Cooperstown, advances to regionals

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - In a crazy finish at Alliance Bank Stadium, Sauquoit Valley baseball scored the game winning run of the Section III Class C overall final when Rob Slivinski was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.  With the 3-2 victory, the Indians now advance to regionals, Monday at Conlon Field at Binghamton against Elmira Heights.

Redskins relief pitcher Ryan Bennett actually hit two straight batters in the bottom of the sixth, Trevor Furner to load the bases and Slivinski to take the lead.

Aaron Lopiccolo got the win for Sauquoit, with nine strikeouts in six-plus innings of work.  Steve Szatko got the final three outs for the Indians.

Cooperstown jumped in front early, getting an RBI single by Greg Broderson in the top of the first, which scored Kevin Huggins.  Broderson then scored on a wild pitch by Lopiccolo two batters later.

The Indians scored their first run in the bottom of the third, on an RBI single by Zach Thomas, which scored Slivinski.  Sauquoit tied it in the bottom of the fifth, on a bloop single by Mike Lallier, which scored Andy Citriniti.
