UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - At the beginning of the season head coach Tim Clive said his Sauquoit Valley lady Indians would be good. He was right. His Indians beat Waterville 3-1 in a Class C-1 semifinal matchup on Sauturday.
In at times a driving rain storm, Sauquoit started the scoring in the first half on a penalty kick by Sierra Kiss. However, Waterville was able to get right back in the game less than five minutes later on a goal by Lindsay Wratten to tie the game up at one at the half.
Early in the second half, officals suspended the game due to excessive winds and rain. Both teams retreated to the buses. After about a 20 minute delay, the game resumed. That is when Sauquoit wore down a very stingey Waterville defense enough to get a direct kick. Amanda Orsino was able to score it to give Sauquoit a 2-1 lead. Kiss added an insurance goal with 40 seconds left in the game.
Now at 18-0 and ranked second in the state in Class C, the Indians are headed to the Class C-1 section title game against the two seed Tully. The time and date have yet to be set.
