Three of the four high school basketball teams from the Mohawk Valley going to the state Final 4 departed Thursday.
First it was the Notre Dame girls, who will be facing Tamarac of Section II Friday at 11:45 a.m. from Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. It's the first trip to the semifinals for the Jugglers in fourteen years. They haven't won a title since 1983. If they win Friday, Notre Dame would face the winner of Bishop Kearney and Woodlands in the Class B Final, Saturday at 4 p.m.
The second team to leave Thursday was the boys from NY Mills. This is the Marauders' fourth trip in the last five years to the Glens Falls Civic Center. Mike Adey's team has only made it to the championship game once in the previous three tries, when they won it all in 2011. Mills meets Moriah of Section VII Friday at 11:45 a.m. and if they do win, the Marauders would face the winner of Sherman and Coleman Catholic in the Class D final, Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
Also departing Friday was the Waterville boys, who are heading to their first ever state semis. The Indians will meet Hoosic Valley of Section II at 5 p.m. from the Glens Falls Civic Center. A win and Waterville advances to the Class C Final, Saturday at 7:15 p.m. against either Middle Eady College or Friends Academy.
The Hamilton girls are also going to their first ever Final 4, as they will meet Fort Edward of Section II Saturday at 10:45 a.m. from HVCC. If the Emerald Knights win, they would meet the winner of Romulus and Eldred in the D Final, Sunday at Noon.
