Mills hangs on, hands Waterville first loss

WATERVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - For the second time in less than a week, the New York Mills boys basketball team won a close game against a previously undefeated team, 59-50 over Waterville Thursday.  The Marauders (10-1) beat West Canada Valley last Saturday in the championship game of the Ed Wadas Classic at Beekman Gym.

Mills jumped out to a 16-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, then extended that lead to 25-15 in the second.  But the Indians went on a 15-6 run to end the half, trailing 31-30 at the break.

The Marauders slowly built their lead back up in the second half, though they never led by more than 12 points.

Nick Comenale and Zach Sawyer led Mills and Waterville respectively, each scoring points.

At the halftime buzzer, Waterville fans through winter gloves onto the court, similar to UC Hockey's Teddy Bear Toss.  The school's freshman class planned the toss, with all the gloves to be donated to people in need in the Waterville community.
