By By BRIAN SANDLER

NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - West Canada Valley's big lead turned out to be much-needed on Friday as the Indians held off hard-charging Center State Conference Division III rival Hamilton in a battle of state-ranked teams 56-52.

West Canada Valley, ranked No. 11 in the state in Class C, turned a slim 14-9 lead after the first quarter into a huge 36-16 lead at halftime and still led 44-29 after the third.  Hamilton, ranked No. 14 in Class D, outscored the home team 23-12 in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as the Indians held on for their 27th straight league win stretching over the past three seasons (not 23rd as mentioned in the highlights).

The Indians were once again led by a big double-double from Jared Suderley who finished with 21 points, 17 rebounds, four steals and three blocks, and Sam Bartlett added a near-double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.  The Emerald Knights were once again led by Derrick Cenicola with 23 points, the bulk of which came in the fourth quarter.

West Canada Valley is now 11-2 overall and 7-0 in league play; Hamilton is 9-4 (4-3).
