West Canada boys have big hoop dreams

NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Boys Basketball team at West Canada Valley is back and dominating CSC Division III again. The Indians are 5-0 and hoping to forget how last season ended... With a Section Semifinal loss to Fabius-Pompey. But now they're focusing on this season.

"It was a disappointing loss, but it motivated us to get better this year, work hard during the summer, carry that over to the game, we'll be fine," says senior Jared Suderley.

"We said after it ended that we wanted to go farther next year, we wanted to go farther than we did last year. it was pretty upsetting" adds senior Paul Atkinson.

The Indians are again starting strong and haven't lost a division game in over three years.

"Hard work, dedication. Can't overlook anybody, you could get upset," says Suderley.

"We've been playing together since the 5th grade, we all get along real well. Just the chemistry we have really helps us," adds senior Alex Maxwell.

The Indians have many keys to success this season, but Suderley, the big man in the middle, is their their main weapon.

"He's a funny kid to be around. Plays hard, makes you laugh, makes it a lot more interesting when he's in the game," says junior Xavier Maxwell.

"He's an unbelievable person. Suds is outgoing, on the court, if there's anybody I want to be on the court with it's Suds, that's who i want on the court with me," adds Atkinson.

West Canada is hoping this season will be special, and that they go deep in the postseason.

"When they went two years ago, we were on JV and it was just amazing to me. Going to the schools and be able to support our team, to actually go and be on the team would be something really special," says Alex Maxwell.
