NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The West Canada Valley girls soccer team handed Mohawk just their second loss of the season Tuesday, 2-1. In fact, the Mohicans only two losses this year have both been at the hands of the Indians.
A defensive struggle in the first half yielded no goals. Just over nine minutes into the second half WCV broke through, as Jennie Maxwell redirected a shot by Kalli Warmingham.
It stayed a 1-0 game until the Lady Indians scored again with 8:28 to go, as Maxwell scored on a penalty kick.
With a 2-0 lead, West Canada looked good, but the Mohicans got a penalty kick of their own just two minutes later as Adrienne Ceneviva scored to make it 2-1.
Mohawk knocked on the door trying to tie it, but West Canada held on for the win. The Mohicans fell to 10-2-1 with the loss while falling for the first time in CSC Division I play (9-1-1). The earlier defeat by West Canada came in a nonleague tournament.
The Lady Indians improved to 11-3 overall and 9-3 in the league.
