Mohicans win exciting showdown with Indians

By MIKE LEVIN

NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Mohawk boys basketball team, idle since losing their first game of the season, last Tuesday at Little Falls, won a big game Monday at West Canada Valley.  It was an exciting atmosphere, as West Canada's fans were as loud as always.

Having the fans behind them, West Canada took the early lead as they led 10-9 after a defensive first quarter and 12-9 early in the second.

But Mohawk came back, going on a 12-0 run in the second and taking a 32-20 lead at halftime.

NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Carson Murphy, who was held to just a point in the first quarter, sparked the run, finishing with 25 points.  Kainan McCarthy added 15 for the Mohicans (13-1.)

Thomas Roberts led West Canada (5-7) with 12.
