West Canada Valley Boys Win 3rd Straight Division Title At Westmoreland

WESTMORELAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - Once again, the Westmoreland boys basketball team found itself in a third-quarter tie against powerhouse West Canada Valley on Monday, but once again, the Indians made a big late run to pull away, claiming their third straight Center State Conference Division III title and 29th straight divisional win 54-45.

In the teams' first meeting on January 12th, the game was tied at 33 before West Canada Valley went on a 15-2 run en route to a 63-46 win.  This time the game was tied at 32 in the third, and after the Bulldogs went up 43-38 early in the fourth the Indians closed the game on a 16-2 run.

Jared Suderley led West Canada Valley, ranked No. 9 in the state in Class C, with 18 points and Zack Lyga added 16.  Dan DeCarlo led Westmoreland with 17 points and Kyle Eisnor scored 13.

The win improves the Indians to 17-2 overall and 9-0 in division play; Westmoreland falls to 15-4 and finishes division play at 8-2.

West Canada Valley led 27-17 at halftime and stretched it to 29-18 early in the third quarter.  Westmoreland then exploded for a 14-3 run to tie the game at 32 and later pulled ahead 36-35, but the Indians led 37-36 going into the fourth.

Westmoreland opened the final quarter with a 7-1 run to go up 43-38, but that's when West Canada Valley threw down the hammer.
