ENDICOTT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Westmoreland Bulldogs just could not match the speed of the Groton Indians. The Section IV champs ran to a 27-3 halftime lead en route to a 40-11 win on Friday night.
In the first quarter, on the second Groton possesion, Ethan Tilbean rumbled 77 yards for the touchdown to give the Indians a 7-0 lead. Groton's defense did the job in the first quarter shutting down the Bulldogs until late in the quarter. Despite getting sacked three times, Westmoreland was able to score on a 32 yard field goal by Kevin Eisnor. Indians led 7-3 after one.
Second quarter, after a long drive, the Indians scored on a one yard quarterback sneak to take a 13-3 lead. On the Bulldogs third drive of the quarter, Dan Smith was picked off leading to a Kyle Reed offensive score to make it 21-3. After another Westmoreland punt, Tilebean would score again, this time on a two yard run and the Indians had a commanding 27-3 lead at the half.
Third quarter, the Bulldogs showed some life, Justin Becker scored on a halfback option pass to Jason Colburn and that would cut the lead to 27-11. However, the Indians came right back and scored to make it 34-11 and the rout was on.
Westmoreland finishes the season 10-1.
