BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Westmoreland Bulldogs' state final four drought continues as the 'Dawgs fell 55-34 in the Class D regional Saturday to Tioga. Cody Bennett was all over the field, rushing 24 times for 366 yards and six touchdowns, five of which went for at least 34 yards.
Westmo, winners of four Section Three titles in the last six years, haven't made it to the state semifinals since 2006.
Bennett got the Tigers on the board in the first quarter, with a one yard score, but the Bulldogs answered with a 24 yard TD pass from Zack Green to Teddy Flint. Bennett then scored again, this time from 51 yards, to put Tioga up 14-6. Westmo tied it again on the last play of the quarter, on an 11 yard TD run by Ryan Murling.
But the Bulldogs never were able to take a lead, as Bennett rushes for TDs of 56 and 47 yards to give Tioga a 28-14 lead at halftime, then from 61 yards to open the third quarter.
Westmo rebounded with an 83 yard kickoff return TD by Tyler Barnes, then later scored on an 80 yard run by Murling and a 75 yard fumble recovery by Flint. But by that point, the Tigers had put the game away.
Westmoreland finishes the season with a record of 10-1.
