Westmoreland falls short in Class D final
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - No one thought the Westmoreland Bulldogs were going to make it back to the Dome. Someone forgot to tell them. However the Sandy Creek Comets had other ideas as they won the Class D title 26-21 on Friday night.
Westmoreland's Tim Harrison started the scoring on a six yard run. The Comets tied the game in the second quarter on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Swarthout to Cameron Hall. Mason McKnitt gave them a 14-7 halftime lead with a 24 yard run.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs scored 14 unanswered thanks to Zack Green's touchdown run and fumble recovery to take a 21-14 lead.
However, Sandy Creek came back with four minutes left, down one, off a Westmo turnover, John Shirley scored the game winner.
Westmoreland finishes the season 7-3 overall while Sandy Creek advances to the regionals at 10-0.
