CANASTOTA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It might have been the wet conditions, but Westmoreland looked sloppy on offense Friday night and it led to a 21-0 victory for Canastota. The Red Raiders clinched the Class C South league title with the win.
Zach Zupan led the way for Canastota, with 150 yards and three touchdowns on 36 carries. The Red Raiders outgained the Bulldogs 347 to 93.
Canastota jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter as they drove down the field quickly and Zupan punched in a one yard score. After a Westmoreland fumble, the Red Raiders drive stalled, but on 4th down Rob Tornatore picked up a fumbled snap and ran for a first down. Zupan would later score again from a yard out to give Canastota a 14-0 lead.
It stayed that way through halftime, though Canastota nearly scored again towards the end of the second quarter, until Jeff Merrell fumbled the ball deep in Bulldog territory. With the momentum on their side, Westsmo looked ready to get back in the game in the third quarter. But their drive stalled on the Canastota three yard line.
