Girls Soccer: Heitz's hat trick lifts Whitesboro over Camden
WHITESBORO, N.Y. (WKTV) - Brie Heitz had a hat trick and Jen Deuel added two more goals as the Whitesboro girls soccer team topped Camden 5-2 at the Ed Wadas Athletic Complex Tuesday night under the lights. Whitesboro is the only team to beat the Lady Blue Devils this season and they've done it twice.
On a cold night, the two teams failed to score for seventeen minutes, but Heitz ended that after she was set up by Deuel and former NEWSChannel 2 Athlete of the Week Ashley Williams. Exactly twelve minutes later, Heitz scored again, this time set up by Mariah Williams.
With the Lady Warriors up 2-0 at halftime, Deuel got her team going again, scoring the first of her two goals. A short time later it looked as though Ashley scored, as her shot hit the bottom of the cross bar and went in, but the referees waved it off.
Camden would then score the first of their two goals, a header by Jenna Sherwood. But Deuel then scored her second goal to give her team a 4-1 cushion. Emilie Mull saved 18 shots in the Whitesboro net.
Michaela Soules scored the other goal for the Lady Blue Devils, who fell to 13-2-1 on the season. They have no league record, since dropping out of the Tri-Valley League.
Whitesboro improved to 13-1 on the season. They have two games left in the regular season, Wednesday at home against Liverpool and Thursday at Oneida.
