Cooperstown Boys Pull Away From Port Byron

Andrew Donovan

The top-seeded Cooperstown boys basketball team looked like it would have a fight on its hands Friday night against No. 8 Port Byron, but the Redskins eventually won the Section III Class C-1 quarterfinal by knockout 70-48.

Cooperstown used a 10-0 run in the 1st quarter to take a 14-6 lead, but Port Byron battled back to trail just 18-15 after the quarter. But with a rowdy home crowd behind it, the Redskins rolled on with relative ease.

The victory improves Cooperstown to 18-3 overall. The Redskins will next face No. 5 Mohawk, which beat No. 4 Sandy Creek 60-52, in the semifinals.
