J-D Boys Get Revenge On New Hartford

Sports WKTV

With a change to avenge an upset loss in last year's Section III, Class A tournament, top-seeded Jamesville-DeWitt got the job done on Sunday at Manley Field House, knocking out defending champion New Hartford 56-44.

Last year, the Spartans shocked the top-seeded and top-ranked Red Rams in the semifinals as the No. 6 seed, and for a while, it looked like they might do it again this year as the No. 4 seed. New Hartford led 17-11 after the 1st quarter, 24-21 at halftime, and was locked in a 35-all tie going into the 4th. But J-D would not be denied this time, opening the final quarter with a 19-3 surge to seal the title.

Alshwan Hymes led J-D with 15 points, while 6-foot-10 Nick Pascale added 14, helping the Rams outscore New Hartford 40-18 in the paint. Andrew Steates was the catalyst on both ends for the Spartans, scoring 24 points on six three-pointers and swiping six of the Spartans' 13 steals.

Jamesville-DeWitt now advances to the state regional round with a 21-2 record and No. 2 ranking in the state in Class A. New Hartford, ranked No. 20 coming in, ends the season 17-7.
