Cooperstown Redskins Girls Basketball

After knocking off the top seed from Class C-1, the undefeated Cooperstown girls basketball team knocked off the top seed from Class C-2 on Saturday, coming back to beat Beaver River 55-42 in the overall Class C championship at Onondaga Community College.
 
Cooperstown admitted before the game it was still exhausted from Thursday night's C-1 championship win over previously-undefeated Little Falls, and it showed in the 1st quarter, as Beaver River used a 9-0 run to build a 15-8 lead after one.  Cooperstown came back with an 8-0 run in the 2nd to go up 16-15, but the Lady Beavers re-took the lead 27-21 at the half.
 
The Lady Redskins, the No. 2 seed from C-1 (Little Falls earned the top seed based on playing more in-class opponents), again came back in the 3rd quarter, opening with a 12-3 run to go up 33-30, but Beaver River hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to tie it at 33 going into the 4th.  Cooperstown finally put the game away with a 12-0 opening run, earning its first trip to the state tournament since 1988.
 
Jen Wehner led the Lady Redskins with 18 points, 17 rebounds, four assists and three blocks, while Samantha Fox added 13 points (11 in the 2nd half), 10 boards and another three blocks.  Danielle Chamberlain led Beaver River with 13 points.
 
Cooperstown, now 24-0 and ranked No. 5 in the state in Class C, will face Section IV Class C winner Tioga in the state regional round next Saturday at Cicero-North Syracuse at 3:00.  Beaver River, ranked No. 18, ends the season 18-5.

Spectator in the Crowd must remember it is all a team effort...the "3 Amigos" played a big part but the whole team is responsible for winning the last two games. Not a good idea to start name dropping now.
