Proctor Boys Three-Peat Denied By Henninger

WKTV News

At some point, the Henninger boys basketball team was bound to beat Proctor, and it finally happened on Sunday in the Section III, Class AA championship at Manley Field House, as the No. 2-seeded Black Knights knocked off the top-seeded and two-time defending champion Raiders in resounding fashion 57-41.

Coming into the game, Proctor had knocked Henninger out of the playoffs in each of the past two seasons--including last year's championship--and had won six straight against the Knights overall. But after grinding out a slim 10-8 lead after the 1st quarter, Henninger took off and never looked back, leading 30-17 at the half and 43-28 going into the 4th en route to the title.

Proctor's lone bright spot was Deandre Preaster, who scored a game-high 21 points in his high school finale. Henninger was led by Kihary Blue with 16 points.

The Knights, ranked No. 11 in the state in Class AA and now 21-2 (their only losses were to Proctor), advance to the state regional round. The Raiders, ranked No. 9 coming in, end the season 20-2.
