2008 National Distance Running Hall Of Fame Inductees Announced Saturday Afternoon

WKTV News

Well, it's hard to believe it has been ten years since the National Distance Running Hall of Fame opened its doors to the public right here in Downtown Utica. There are so many greats already enshrined and Saturday afternoon they received some company.

The Class of 2008 was announced in Boston.

1968 Boston Marathon winner Amby Burfoot got the call. He will be joined by Priscilla Welch, who holds several master's women's records at a variety of distances. Also inducted was Johnny Hayes, the winner of the 1908 Olympic Marathon This is significant because it was the first marathon held at the now standard distance of 26.2 miles.

These three will officially be inducted during a ceremony on Saturday, July 12th.
