NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. -- For 14 innings, neither undefeated Smith nor also-undefeated New Hartford would cave in to the other. Finally in the 15th inning, Smith scratched across two runs on a fielder's choice and an error, coming away with a 2-0 win that took two days to complete.

Resuming at the start of the ninth inning after play was suspended due to darkness on Monday, Smith and New Hartford continued to match zeros for six more innings. In the 15th, Smith led off with back-to-back singles, and a stolen base put runners on second and third with no outs. Nate Mallinder then sent a chopper to shortstop Joe Betar who fired home, but catcher Tim Whalen was unable to control the ball, and Kyle Richardson slid home for the first run of the game. Jason Nowicki then flew out to rightfielder Pat Calli, who made an errant throw home to allow Ryan Kramer to score from third.

Smith lefthanded co-ace Garrett Baker was the star of the second day, throwing seven no-hit innings of relief and allowing just two baserunners on a walk and an error and striking out eight. New Hartford's Eric Verbickas also pitched all seven innings on Tuesday, allowing two runs--one earned--on seven hits and one walk and striking out four.

The victory was something of a sigh of relief for Smith, which had at least one runner on base in every inning from the eighth-on and held New Hartford to just one hit in the entire game, an infield single in the sixth on Monday. New Hartford managed just one rally on Tuesday, getting its only runners of the day to second and third with two outs in the 14th. But Baker got a harmless flyout to end the threat.

Smith is now 7-0 in Oneida County league play; New Hartford is 5-1.
