Utica Women Notch First Win Behind Berry

MARCY, N.Y. The Utica College Pioneers defeated the SUNY Canton Kangaroos 83-49 in the opening day of the Wildcat Tip-Off Tournament.

Utica sophomore Jessica Berry (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) had a game-high 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals.  The Pioneers also got 12 points apiece from seniors Mallory Davis (Vernon-Rockville, CT/Rockville) and Laura Keating (Whitesboro, NY/Horseheads), sophomore Stephanie Nara (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and freshman Kathleen McGee (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth).  Canton's Mindy Small (Ogdensburg, NY/Heuvelton) contributed 11 points in a losing effort, while senior Kristi Farrell (Ogdensburg, NY/OFA) scored 10 points and eight rebounds.

Utica improved to 1-1 with the win, while Canton fell to 0-5.  The Tournament will continue tomorrow with Canton taking on SUNYIT at 2:00 p.m., followed by Utica squaring off against SUNYIT on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
