Utica Brewers suffer similar fate as Smith Post

Sports WKTV

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica Brewers regional tournament in Youngstown Ohio did not go as planned. The Brewers went 2-1 in the tournament but it was not enough. Due to rain and time constraints, Utica did not advance to the World Series.

The Brewers were 2-0 going into Saturday then lost 5-2 to Shannon Fence out of Cleveland. At that time it was their first game due to bad weather. So they were to play two games on Sunday. However, all games on Sunday were canceled again due to rain.

So on Monday, Shannon had to play two games. They lost the first game that made them 1-1. Going into there third game, if they lost, Utica was in the World Series. If they won they would be tied with Utica 2-1 and would have to play a one game championship since both teams had a loss in round robin play.

However, as the rule states, no team can play within 48hrs of the World Series start date. That date was Wednesday so no game could be played on Tuesday. The tie breaker rule was head to head. Since Shannon Fence beat Utica 5-2, they were was awarded the championship and Utica was declared the runner up with no championship game to be played.
