Finals set for King of Kings league

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The two top seeds were dealt upsets in the King of Kings Mens Summer Basketball playoffs, as Utica-area teams Maintain Swagger and the Bombers won semifinal games on Saturday at Proctor High.

In the women’s division, the Upstate Ballers from Syracuse and the Utica-area Ballin’ Fogies won their semi-final games. Finals on Sunday at Proctor will open with the women’s game at 1:30, followed by the men’s title game at 2:30.

Led by Ithaca College grad Sean Burton’s 37 points, bottom seed Maintain Swagger defeated number two seed Prestige Elite of Syracuse, 74-68. John Spellman added 12 for the winners, while James Hall with 24 and Latvia Escho with 20 led Prestige Elite.

The Bombers took out top seed the Gunnas, 80-60, with both Josh Wright and Deandre Preaster scoring 20. Josh Henderson led the Bombers with 20, and teammates Akeem Flagg and Ron Tarver each had 12.

The Upstate Ballers were led by Whitney Ross’ 16 points in their 52-41 win over the Young Guns. Madison Slagle had 18 for the losers. Corinna Rustman had 18 points for the Ballin’ Fogies in their 45-34 win over Bomb Squad. Liz Unger topped the losers with 12.
