CNY Yankee fans, and business ready for World Series

By By PAT BAILEY

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Central New Yorkers are buzzing about Wednesday's World Series Game One matchup between the Yankees and Phillies. However, fans aren't the only ones excited - so too are the stores who sell their memorabilia.

John Giacovelli, Manager of Cooperstown Connection in Sangertown Square in New Hartford, said everything and anything Yankees is selling.

"Sweatshirts, T-Shirts, Swisher t-shirts, Jeter t -shirts, you name it, they are looking for everything," said Giacovelli.

Even though it helped, Giacovelli says he noticed an increased interest in Yankee gear long before the Yankees made the World Series.

"Absolutely, absolutely," he said. "The past three weeks it really picked up a lot, once we took care of the playoffs. Now we just have to take care of the World Series."

Yankee fan Rick Zalocha, bought a new Yankee sweatshirt Wednesday at Cooperstown Connection. Zalocha said at work alone he notices a buzz surrounding the World Series. Zalocha said it was understandable since the Mohawk Valley is predominately Yankee country.

"I am very excited. I am looking forward to it. It is a good match up with Philadelphia, but I think we get them in six," Zalocha said, referring to his belief of the Yankees chances in the World Series.

If the Yankees win the series, everyone wins - the fans, and the Cooperstown Connection, said Giacovelli, who expect business to boom.

"We had to actually pre-order our World Series stuff already," Giacovelli said. "So, it's on an if-win basis. So we have tons of stuff coming if they win. Shelves will be packed. Boston stuff will move to the back of the store."
