HERKIMER, NY - With four goals in the second half on Saturday's game against Bunker Hill Community College, the Herkimer Generals men's soccer team won their season opener at Wehrum Stadium, securing the 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs.

Herkimer (1-0, 0-0) controlled the entire game, getting multiple shots on goal throughout the contest. It took 48 minutes for the first goal to occur, but after that the three more goals came within the next 30 minutes of play.

Scoring the first goal was sophomore Ben Polk (Banbury, UK). The forward found himself behind the defense numerous times Saturday, netting his lone goal on an assist from Connor Shearer (Oneonta, NY).

Polk found himself in the mix again in the 52nd and 79th minute, giving Herkimer a three goal lead (3-0), assisting to Moulid Somow (Kenya) and Jermaine Windster (Rotterdam, Holland) on each side of the field. Moulid's came on the left wing and Windster's came on the right, seeing both players drill shots in the bottom of the net.

The scoring ended for Herkimer in the 80th minutes when a Jeff Castaneda (Franklin Square, NY) shot caromed off a Bulldog defender right to Mitsuru Takayashiki (Morioka, Japan), scoring from in the box easily to the left side of the net.

In the net for the Generals was freshman Alberto Sanchez (Yonkers, NY). Sanchez saved three shots on the day, earning his first career shutout. He'll look to do the same on Sunday when Herkimer's Coliseum Classic continues.

The Generals will host Berger Community College at Wehrum Stadium with play scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
