Comets' broadcaster Brendan Burke receives special honor

(WKTV) - After multiple local appearances on national TV within the last year, Utica was once again represented on the national stage, Wednesday.

The Sportscasters Talent Agency of America (STAA) released its long-awaited list of the "Top 30 Sportscasters Under 30," after a campaign to gain America's opinion on social media platforms within the last few months.

On the list was Utica Comets radio play-by-play broadcaster, Brendan Burke, who calls the games for the team on 94.9 FM KROCK. Burke was named the primary sportscaster for the Comets, after spending 5 seasons with the AHL's Peoria Rivermen, who were purchased by the Vancouver Canucks and moved to Utica this past summer.

After receiving more than 2,000 tweets with over 100 names of potential candidates, the STAA decided to release lists in two separate categories. The first category was voted on by the STAA itself, and the second was dubbed the "People's Choice," coming from recommendations and nominations by sports fans on Twitter.

Burke, who also broadcasts college football on Fox Sports Net/Fox College Sports and college hockey for the Big Ten Network, was chosen directly by the STAA and placed on the first list of accomplished sportscasters.
