Utica Comets President Robert Esche has announced that the club will host a preseason contest at the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena in Rome, NY on Friday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. The Comets will face the Adirondack Flames in their lone exhibition game in the Mohawk Valley.
All tickets to the game will be $5 and the proceeds from the game will be donated to the John F. Kennedy Civic Arena. Only 700 tickets will be available for purchase and will be sold exclusively through Kennedy Arena. They will go on sale on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the JFK Arena box office.
Last season, the Comets hosted the Adirondack Phantoms at Kennedy Arena on Sept. 29, 2013 in front of a sold-out crowd. Utica defeated Adirondack, 4-2, in the Mohawk Valley's first opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Comets in Central New York. The Phantoms (Philadelphia Flyers) relocated to Allentown, PA over the summer while the Abbotsford Heat (Calgary Flames) have moved to the Glens Falls Civic Center.
"2014 marks Kennedy Arena's 50th anniversary and what a great way to kick off this celebration by welcoming the Comets back again this year, last year’s event was a huge success," said Rome Mayor Joseph R. Fusco, Jr. "I would especially like to thank Rob Esche and the Comets family for their continued support of the Rome Community. I’d also like to wish the Comets the best of luck as they get ready to drop the puck on their second season here in the Mohawk Valley."
"Last year's preseason game was such a tremendous success and we received such strong support from the Rome community all season long," said Esche. "Being able to host a preseason game in Rome, give back to the community and showcase our players in their beautiful facility is the perfect fit for our organization."
The Comets and Flames will meet again on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Glens Falls Civic Center.
