LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Mohawk Valley DiamondDawgs returned home on Thursday to Veteran’s Memorial Park for its Perfect Game Collegiate League (PGCBL) matchup against the Utica Brewers for the first doubleheader between the two tenants of Route 5. The DiamondDawgs lost game one after the Brewers poured on seven runs in the top of the seventh to win 15-9 and then turned around to win game two by a final of 2-0 after Eric Brothers (Sioux Falls) pitched a no-hitter in the loss.
In game one of the doubleheader the DiamondDawgs took a 9-8 lead into the top of the seventh when it all unraveled for Patrick Michon (Texas A&M) when the Brewers exploded for seven runs and took the lead 15-9. The highlight for the Dawgs was a 2-run homerun by Matt Zanotta (Bryant).
In game two the DiamondDawgs scored early in the second inning when Utica’s Eric Brother walked Willie Shaw (William & Mary), Sam Dexter (Southern Maine), Joey Tracey (UAlbany) and Garrett Pierce (CSU Bakersfield) consecutively bringing in the only runs of the game and resulting in the oddity of a pitcher tossing a no-hitter and losing the game. The winning pitcher for the DiamondDawgs was Keegan Long (Saint Josephs) who improved to 1-0 and hurled nine strikeouts, three walks in six innings pitched while Tyler Brey (ULM) tossed three strikeouts in his appearance. In the loss Eric Brothers threw four strikeouts and four walks throwing a complete game no-hitter. With the split the DiamondDawgs improve to 7-6 while the Brewers for 4-8.
The DiamondDawgs are back at Veterans Memorial Park Saturday, June 22, 2013 for a 7:05pm contest against the Amsterdam Mohawks.
