ROME N.Y. (WKTV)- The Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum received a generous donation from the Peter J. Fabrizio Jr. Fund, Thursday afternoon.

A $1,000 check was presented to the museum by the Rome College Foundation, the administrators of the Fabrizio Jr. Fund.

"I think it's marvelous," said Ruth Demers, executive director for the Rome Sports Hall of Fame. "People have been very, very good to us and this is a prime example of how good people have been to us."

Demers said the money will go toward funding a new cabinet at the museum.

The fund is in memory of martial artist Peter Fabrizio Jr. who died in a car accident in 2002. He was a fourth degree black belt and won more than 400 trophies.

"It's such an accomplishment for that young man," said Ruth Demers, executive director for the Rome Sports Hall of Fame. "It's just a shame that his life was taken so soon. God is with him up there."

The Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is located on Rome-New London Road Rome features a collection of local sports collectables and memorabilia.
