Poland Girls win State Soccer Championship

CORTLAND, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Poland Girls Soccer team has won the Class D State Championship, after the #2-ranked Tornadoes beat Chateaugay in double overtime, 3-2 at the Red Field at SUNY Cortland.  It was Poland's first-ever state title in soccer, boys or girls.

Tara Seigle scored two of the team's goals, including the game-winner in the second ten minute overtime. Mikayla Blumenstock scored the other goal and was the team's MVP.

Seigle's first goal, with just under ten minutes to go in regulation, looked like it would win the game until Brianna Cook tied up the game with less than two minutes left.

So it took a little longer than expected, but after Seigle's second goal, the Tornadoes were able to hang on to win it.

With just a handful of seniors, Poland has a number of key players who will be back next fall for another run, including Seigle, Blumenstock, Paige Sullivan and keeper Courtney Green.
