Rycraft preparing for first pro boxing bout

By MIKE LEVIN

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - After 70 amateur fights, Proctor graduate Michael Rycraft will make his professional boxing debut Thursday, April 17.  The Super Middleweight will face Pedro Gonzalez of Holyoke, MA as part of the first card presented by JKJ Championship Promotions at the Holiday Inn Convention Center in Liverpool.

Rycraft has been training for years under the guidance of his father, Bernard Grimes, who runs Bernard's Boxing Academy inside the Utica Jewish Community Center.  Michael is a 2012 NY State Golden Golves Champion and missed out on making the 2012 US Olympic Boxing team by just two points.

He signed a three year contract with JKJ, headed by Jay Johnson Jr., who's a native of Canastota, home of the Boxing Hall of Fame.

The event on April 17 is set to begin at 6 and there are three pricing tiers for tickets: $20, $35 or $50.  They can be purchased by calling Bernard's Boxing Academy, at: (315) 542-4227, or Jenelle Grimes at: (315) 749-3329.
