Smith, New Hartford still alive at Legion states


UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Smith and New Hartford both stayed in the hunt for the NY State Legion Baseball Championship Friday.  Smith lost a game, but won two more, while New Hartford continued through the winner's bracket.

Smith beat Lloyd 3-2 in the completion of Thursday's only game, from SUNYIT.  They would fall to Saratoga at Murnane Field, before topping Corning 12-4 in the nightcap.  In that game, Matt Zakala pitched a complete game for Smith, who scored six runs in the first inning.

New Hartford topped Clinton County 2-1 at Murnane Field, setting up a Saturday matchup at noon between New Hartford and Saratoga.  The winner meets Smith at 7 p.m., while the loser faces Endicott in an elimination game.  The Championship is Sunday mornning at 10.
