UC camp continues with first practice in pads

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Utica College football team put on the pads for the first time Saturday as their training camp continued.  Head coach Blaise Faggiano spoke with NEWSChannel 2 before practice began and told us that the returning veterans came back in the best shape of any previous team in the staff's tenure.

"You see mentally, the veterans, how well they know the system, welcoming the rookies to the family,  they're swimming, their eyes are big," said Fagggiano.  "We go a million miles an hour, but the rookies are doing great, they're very strong talent as well as football committed group of freshmen."

The Pioneers are coming off a 2013 season in which they won just three games, which followed one of the best seasons in team history in 2012.

"To be honest, we were even closer last year than we were two years ago and if a couple coins would've flipped our way or the ball bounced our way we could've had a much different season," said senior RB Jesse Baldasarre, who's back after an injury during camp last year derailed his season.  "But that's football and that's why you have to go out and play the games.  You have to prepare every day like it's your last game and that's what we're doing now, we have a lot of guys that have bought in."

UC will play their Blue-White scrimmage on Saturday, August 23 at 1 p.m. from Gaetano Stadium, then open the season at non-conference opponent Misericordia September 6.
