UTICA, N.Y. - The Utica Comets, in conjunction with Galaxy Communications, have announced that FM 94.9 K-ROCK will be the team's flagship radio station.

The Galaxy Communications and Utica Comets agreement calls for FM 94.9 K-ROCK to broadcast all 76 regular season games, as well as all post-season games. Additional Comets coverage will be available on K-ROCK's sister stations, 96.9 WOUR, 99.1 ESPN, and MIX 102.5.

"The Utica Comets are thrilled to have this opportunity to partner with our locally-owned broadcasting company, Galaxy Communications," Comets President Robert Esche said. "Comets radio broadcasts will play a vital role in getting Comets coverage to Comets fans all over Upstate, NY. By partnering with 94.9 K-ROCK, the Comets not only gain a stellar broadcasting partner with a dynamic 50,000 Watt FM signal, but we get a chance to reach fans from Syracuse, to Albany, to Oneonta, and Boonville."

As part of the Comets-Galaxy Communications partnership, Galaxy Communications will produce the game broadcasts including pre-game and post-game shows. On the programming front, FM 94.9 K-ROCK is committed to an impressive lineup of Comets-themed shows featuring Comets players, coaches and staff. During the season, all of Galaxy Communications' stations will feature comprehensive Comets coverage including game day shows often originating on-location from various places in and around the Utica Memorial Auditorium and Galaxy Communications' studios.

“In teaming up to offer Comet play-by-play, Galaxy Communications will be providing the very best local programming available to listeners all across Upstate, NY,” Galaxy Communications President and CEO, Ed Levine said. “I started Galaxy Communications 23 years ago with 94.9. The Utica Comets coming to Utica, is the single most exciting thing to come to the Mohawk Valley area in that time. It is fitting that the new flagship station of the Utica Comets is 94.9 K-ROCK, the station that started the Galaxy family. I am excited about the possibilities that lie ahead with both broadcasting, and the incredible promotional coverage the Utica Comets will get on 96.9 WOUR, 99.1 ESPN, MIX 102.5.”

Brendan Burke will serve as the primary play-by-play broadcaster for Comets games. A veteran of over 500 games at the ECHL, AHL and NHL level, was named the "Voice of the Comets" after serving the last five seasons with the Peoria Rivermen.
