Utica Post wins three in one day

By By MIKE LEVIN

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - It took a lot of work, but Utica Post won the District V Legion Baseball tournament, winning three games at DeLutis Field Sunday.  First UP got the Ilion monkey off their back, beating them 11-1 in the Survivor's Final, then they took two games over Whitestown, 8-4 and 13-2.

On the same day that the Baseball Hall of Fame inducted three new members, Utica played like legends, having to overcome the odds en route to a shot at the state legion title.  It's Utica's first District V title in eight years.

Whitestown was undefeated in the tournament heading into Sunday, but couldn't muster enough offense.  In fact they lost the second game in just five innings, with the game shortened by the mercy rule.
