METAIRIE, La. - The New Orleans Saints cut ties with four defensive stalwarts Wednesday, including Proctor graduate Will Smith.  The defensive end was released, along with Roman Harper and Jabari Greer.  Jonathan Vilma's contract is up and the team will not resign him.

Smith was picked by the Saints in the first round of the 2004 Draft out of Ohio State and had a career high 13 1/2 sacks in the team's Super Bowl winning season four years ago.  But he missed all last season with a torn ACL.

He was due to make $11.55 million in salary and bonuses in 2014, the final year of his contract.
