AHL to vote next week on new team in Utica

By MIKE LEVIN

It's been a decade since Utica had an AHL team, but according to the Pro Hockey Talk site on NBCSports.com, that is about to change.  In an article by Jason Brough, which cites the twitter page of News 1130 Sports in Vancouver, the league's Board of Governors will vote June 13th in favor of the Canucks moving their AHL affiliate to Utica.

Attempts by WKTV to contact the local players involved in the deal, such as Rob Esche, went unanswered Wednesday.

But that will likely change once the board's decision is announced next week.

The team would play their home games at the Utica Memorial Auditorium, with renovations expected to update the building.
