SCHUYLER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Legendary professional wrestler "Rowdy" Roddy Piper energized a crowd of about 400 fans at the Field of Dreams Complex Saturday night for 2CW's "Bagpipes & Boilermakers" event. The 2007 inductee of the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in Amsterdam brought back his world famous "Piper's Pit" segment, where he thanked the fans for welcoming him back to Central NY.
Piper was a main event contender for the old World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) back in the "Rock N' Wrestling Connection" era in the mid-1980s, when the company would regularly come through the Empire State. He was the main antagonist for another legend of the business, Hulk Hogan, and the two were the headliners of the first "Wrestlemania" event, held at Madison Square Garden in 1985.
"Hot Rod" was joined at Saturday night's event by his son, Colt Toombs, an up and coming MMA fighter and pro wrestler himself. Colt unfortunately was unable to compete due to an injury suffered Friday night at another 2CW event, in Watertown.
