ATLANTA (WKTV) - While the Orange fell one game short of making it to the National Championship game, fans say they have nothing to be ashamed of. Most did not expected the Orange to make it as far as they did.
Of course, the team was disappointed Sunday morning, knowing it would be their last day in Atlanta without the chance to play Monday.
Sophomore Guard Michael Carter-Williams did not have impressive Final Four game, scoring only two points before fouling out of the game. He said, "I think we had a great season, from the guys we lost to who we're working with now. The guys played great all year long, surprised a lot of people. That's something to be happy about."
Senior James Southerland had a late three-point shot that could have changed the tides at the end of what would be his final game. He said, "We had a great time, great run, great guys since the Big East and whole postseason had fun with these guys. They work hard and I can't be more proud of who I accomplished this with."
Freshman Guard Trevor Cooney said, "Just to keep practicing, keep playing basketball, it's what we all love. To do that to the end, one game short is tough. To end on a loss is tough no matter what."
Guard Brandon Triche also played his last game for the Orange, and got an outpouring of support Sunday on social media. Triche said, "Final Four, down two points, opportunity to go up, tie the game, get a charge. That's probably what I'll remember the most. That's cause how I am. That's a moment you dream about. Those final seconds, ball in your hands."
C.J. Fair said, "When you get to the Final Four, it shows it's possible to get here. It's hard to get here, but it shows the Syracuse community it's possible for us and I think that gives us an edge going forward."
With the season over, there are lot of questions to be answered about the Orange in the off-season. Coach Jim Boeheim did not pleasantly answer questions about what his future entails, saying he expects to be back for another year.
It is known that the Orange will be competing against different teams next season, as part of joining the Atlantic Coastal Conference.
Before that comes, the Orange gave it their all in their last season as part of the famed Big East, which now becomes history as fans know it.
