Fab Melo won't play in Orange's next two games

By ANDREW DONOVAN

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Syracuse Orange basektball team announced Saturday that sophomore Fab Melo is not with the team for the current road trip and will not play in the next two games.

Syracuse is scheduled to play Saturday evening at Notre Dame and play at Cincinnati on Monday.

Melo, a 7-foot sophomore, had started every game this season for Syracuse, which is 20-0 overall and 7-0 in the Big East. The team just surpassed the school's record for best start to the season.

The University would not release the reason for Melo's absence.

ESPN is reporting that Melo is being held out due to an unresolved academic issue from the first semester.

Melo played against Pitt Monday, before the second semester began. Melo set a career-high with 10 rebounds. He also had 10 points.

The Orange are the number one ranked team in the nation, according to the Associated Press and USA Today Coaches' poll.

In an unrelated situation, Junior Mookie Jones has left Syracuse University for personal reasons, and currently is not a member of the team, the University said.
